SS16 Tropical Trend: Bold Renditions vs. Subtle Twists

Fri 24 Jun 2016 Amy Kilvington

Summer 2016’s tropical trend is in full swing, and we’re very much enjoying seeing vibrant shades, botanical prints and exotic accents flourish across the jungle of interior design. This time of year is all about fun and discovery, and by injecting a touch of tropical into your home, you can create a colourful haven that’s filled with the amusement and exploration of summer breaks overseas. Who needs to travel to warmer climes when you’re very own home buzzes with holiday vibes, eh?

The word tropical immediately conjures images of lush green foliage, hot pink blooms, and flamboyant wild species that know a thing or two about standing out from the crowd. However, this year’s tropical trend isn’t solely focused on the bright and bold.

At Custom Curtains our summer collection features window dressings that are bang on trend. The range includes patterns inspired by rainforests and lagoons, and while some display an unabashed, eccentric take on the tropical trend, we’ve carefully curated a selection that is much more understated. These delightful fabrics are a great example of stylish subtlety, and the perfect choice for curtains, cushions and other soft furnishings in your home.

Not everyone is a fan of bright colours and bold prints, but that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate the tropical theme into your space. Search out fabric that presents a delicate take on the trend, and coordinate with natural materials like wicker and rattan. This understated approach will still offer a nod towards tropicality, but will help to maintain the cool, calm and collected spaces that many of us prefer.

Of course, if you’re keen to go all-out with the tropical trend this summer, don’t hold back when it comes to colour, pattern and texture. Graphic prints of palms and petals, bamboo furniture, multicoloured rugs and botanical centrepieces will all channel the tropical vibe, warming and refreshing your home in a way that only exotic style can.
