Sewing Machine Day

According to the internet, there are several days in the year that this holiday is supposed to fall on, so we have decided to go with the predominantly featured date, which is September 10.

This holiday is a celebration of the significant invention, which has been responsible over the years for the creation an innumerable amount of fashion-related items; from dresses, to jeans, to shirts, to, you guessed it, curtains.

The first working sewing machines were invented in the 19th century in France; before this, any and all clothes or fabric items had to be hand-sewn – stitch, after stitch, after stitch. Sewing machines have, theoretically, saved sewers everywhere from calloused fingertips, and the endless amounts of bloodshed that come from inevitably jabbing themselves with the needle! That in itself is something to be thankful for.

Sadly, the day of the sewing machine is on the decline, with less and less people learning how to sew. However, for us at Custom Curtains, it is still an integral part of our production process, as all of our products are hand made by experienced seamstresses, who still have a real passion for sewing.

Sewing Machine day is a day to celebrate all things sewing machine, so naturally that must include the skilled and talented people sat behind them. We at Custom Curtains feel like there is no better day to introduce you to some of our loyal and experienced sewers and production team members, who work incredibly hard to ensure your curtains are of the highest quality and made to your exact specifications.

Hopefully, this little article will inspire sewers everywhere to be creative, today!
